Emerging From Hibernation

March End 2011
I'm finding it hard to come out of hibernation this year. It could have to do with the fact that I haven't used up all my stored fat yet. And sadly, that probably wont leave until after we start up the garden work. But firewood is running low, so spring should be close-I keep thinking. Of course the sun was shining on April Fool's Day, and it's raining and cold today.
I really thought that I had jumped into spring the other day, helping Bryon work on the goat fence. Fences will make happy neighbors, I'm sure. We have four goats this year, two of them do not fear the electric fence, and all four can do amazing acrobatic jumps over the gates and barn door. And if that doesn't work they head- butt their way through. I'm ready to kill them. A goat roast, and invite the neighbors, I am positive they'll come. They have been most gracious to not have run over them on the road so far. Maybe they were hoping for just that, a goat roast.
In remembrance of Gailie and our twig fence
This year I want to get my yard looking nice. I've tried to get something to grow over that arbor for  4 years. Finally Bryon lost faith in me and pulled it up. The goats didn't help, with their extreme trimming. I have plenty of rocks to replace the twig fence, not really hoping to keep animals out so much but Timothy in off the driveway. Maybe our yard will grow grass this year, that is if I can keep the baseball games off of it. No, I can remember my Pap really messing with our good fun for the sake of his grass, I changed my mind, keep the ballgames, limit mole digging.
A few years ago when it looked pretty
My seeds are in hand for the garden. A friend just came back from Florida and shared with me homegrown tomatoes. We had hot biscuits, tomatoes, and fried eggs this morning, my favorite breakfast. The taste renewed my gardening passion. So here is where the goats can help. I have a barn full (no lie) of garden food. Getting the barns spring cleaned and the goats and chickens properly contained, just talking about all this is burning off extra fat! I have a lot to do and I think I've talked myself into looking forward to it all. After all, this is my favorite time of year, it just needs to get started.
