I was listening to "The Splendid Table" on NPR the other day when one of the callers told how she was writing a book for her children. This isn't your new-mom-baby-book, but it sounded a lot like some of the scrape books I've seen. But I'm not a scrapbooker.
This lady wrote this book for her children, one of the main things that she emphasized was writing about their favorite food ( well, she made it on to "Splendid Table"!), and the recipes she used. I just keep thinking that Jonathan's wife is going to need to know how to make pancakes the way Mama made them.
You wouldn't have to stop with food. How many times have you looked at your children aghast and wondered, did I do that? Well there it would be in writing, don't count on Granny's rose colored memory.
Not just the bratty things to be remembered ( oops, I can see myself using this a therapy tool - complain about them, knowing they'll feel real bad one day reading how I suffered at their hand, poor mother), Just the yesterday Samuel told me that sugar was really bad, it's like a drug to trap you. Ok, he's listening in on the current opinion, but I liked his confidence and conviction. This would be a neat place to journal about the children and their revelations. Their victories and accomplishments. Sometimes we have huge hurdles to cross with our children, I think when they are older, with their own babes they might like to know how Mama managed and didn't.
